Dewalt Schneider

Dewalt Schneider or Snyder was born 02 November 1755 in Wallhalber, Germany. He died 07 December 1828 in Milford or Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, PA. Dewalt served as a Private in Capt. Shyrrer’s Company, York County, Pennsylvania Line and he was also on the Muster Roll of Capt. Philip Cramer’s County Militia.

Dewalt married Anna Clara, or some say Clarassa, Feathers in 1786 in America. She was born in Wallhalber, Germany 21 April 1768 and died 17 July 1819 in Milford or Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, PA. They are buried on their beloved homestead. The Dewalt Schneider Snyder Cemetery is located in Upper Turkeyfoot Township on the former Jim Brocht farm. We believe Anna’s parents, Christian and Maria (?) Feathers are also buried there along with some children. Two other veterans are buried there, John Heitzel, war of 1812, and John Hetzel, Civil War. This cemetery is located on a very steep bank.

This was Clark Brocht’s first SAR line. Clark restored the cemetery in the 1970s.
