Adam Rickenbach
Adam Rickenbach was born in 1726 in Basel
Canton, Switzerland to Henry Rickenbach (1696-1741) and Barbara
Thommen (1701-1740).
Barbara died in Philadelphia in 1740 shortly after their arrival in
America on September 23, 1740 aboard the ship “Friendship”.
Henry and Barbara had eight children all of which were born
in Switzerland:
1.
Elizabeth
who was born about 1724 and died in 1796 in Berks County, PA. She
married John Kurtz (KZB-6) and they lived in Tulpehocken Township,
Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1790.
2.
Adam who was born in 1726 and
died in 1804. He lived
in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1790.
3.
John was born in 1728 and died in
1782. He married a lady
named Anna.
4.
Jacob was born in 1730 and died
single, per his will, in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
in 1805.
5.
Margaret was born in 1732 and married
Samuel Baer.
6.
Henry was born in 1735
7.
Barbara was born in 1737 and died in
1740 at sea.
8.
Anna was born in 1739 and also died
in 1740 at sea.
Adam Rickenbach married, and his wife gave him
thirteen children:
1.
Henry born July 15, 1752 and died
October 16, 1827, married Anna Gerber (GBB-2).
They lived in Fermanaugh Township, Indiana County,
Pennsylvania in 1820.
2.
John, died in September 1796 in
Lancaster County. He
married Anna Rupp (RP-3).
3.
Mary who married Casper Schneider.
4.
Anna married Michael Troyer,
Jr. (TY-2). They were
living in Brothersvalley Township, Bedford County (now Somerset
County), Pennsylvania in 1790 and moved west to Holmes County, Ohio
sometime shortly after his father’s death in 1807.
5.
Adam, probably died single and was
living in York County, Pennsylvania in 1810.
6.
Barbara, married 1st John
Detweiler and then Adam Herner.
7.
Veronica died in 1793 in Berks
County, Pennsylvania and was married to Christian Lantz (LZ-1).
8.
Eliza married Tobias Schenck.
9.
Betsy (Elizabeth) married John
McConkey
10.
Jacob probably died single in Chester
County, Pennsylvania.
11.
Catherine married John Grabill.
12.
David born in 1772 and died in 1848
married Elizabeth Young who was born in 1777.
13.
Margaret died in 1824 and was married
to Andrew Troyer (TY-b) and the lived in Fermanaugh Township,
Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
Adam returned to Europe sometime in the late
1740’s or early 1750’s to collect inheritance from his grandfather
Adam Thommen’s estate who had died in 1743.
Adam Rickenbach paid the Supply Tax during 1781
in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
