Ludwig Smith Jr
Ludwig Smith, Jr., was born 04 March 1763 in Lancaster County,
PA. He died 24 September 1832 around Stoystown, Somerset Co., PA.
Ludwig served as a Private in Lancaster, PA, 5th
Battalion per the Pennsylvania Archives Fifth series Vol. 7, pages
476, 479, 486 and 501.
Ludwig married Susanna Shanafeld 28 August 1792 in Brothersvalley
Township, Bedford, now Somerset, County, PA. Susanna was born 24
January 1775 in Bedford, now Somerset, County, PA.
She died 14 July 1841 in Somerset County, PA.
Ludwig is the son of Ludwig Smith, Sr. and Mary Gertrude Gibler.
Susanna’s parents were George and Susanna (Baker) Shanafield. Ludwig
is buried in the Lower (Union) Cemetery in Stoystown, Somerset
County, PA, just off Route 30, with daughter Catherine. Susanna is
buried in the beautiful Zion (Hoffman) Lutheran Cemetery, Jenners
Township, Somerset County, PA, with some of her children.
