Henry Ash I

Henry Ash, I, was also known as Henry Ash, Sr. He was born about 1740 in Germany and died 1801 in Washington County, MD.  He pledged the Patriots Oath of Fidelity and Support in 1778.

Henry married Catherine (?) about 1759. She was born about 1740 in Maryland or Germany. She died after 1801 in Washington County, MD. Henry Ash I or Sr. and Catherine (?) Ash are both buried in Washington County, Maryland.

Historical Note: In Henry’s will he gives to his wife, Catherine, “the use of my black woman Mary and her children until they are thirty five years of age.”

Of all of my SAR lines, this is the only family that had slaves. Henry Ash, I, is my 6th great grandfather.

Historical Note: Henry Ash, I’s 2nd great grandson, David Ash, fought in the Civil War for the north.
